About this concept
Lowlight is a hosting company that does not exist. Benystudio designed and built it to show how a hosting site could work.
The idea
The most common complaint about hosting is the renewal price: a low first price that needs a long prepay, then renews at several times as much. Lowlight is built around the opposite: one price, printed limits and public status.
The look starts from the datacentre at night: a near-black page, thin lines, monospace labels and one green status light.
What is real and what is sample data
Sample data: every price, plan, limit, data centre, PUE figure, uptime number and incident. They are set in this site's admin and change everywhere at once.
Demo only: the terminal answers from that data and the test order creates nothing; the migration form checks what you type and sends nothing.
No real company is named as a customer or competitor, and there are no reviews or testimonials.
How it was built
WordPress with the Blocksy theme and a child theme of coded page templates. Plans, data centres, incidents and questions are post types in Secure Custom Fields, edited in the classic admin screen.
The terminal, the five-year calculator, the VPS configurator and the status board are small JavaScript modules that read the same data the pages print, loaded only on the pages that use them.
